Welcome to UMAC22! We are so excited to gather virtually for our annual meeting and awards show! Our theme this year is Embrace Faith.
It’s safe to say that over the last few years, we’ve all had to embrace a lot. More than we care to talk about, right? Some of us have embraced new software to help communicate digitally. Did you know “Zoom” is now officially defined as a verb? Others have embraced new environments as we’ve had to work remotely. Did you know that “work from home clothing” is one of the most popular internet searches? (You’re not wearing slippers, are you? It’s okay, who among us, right?) And all the while, we’ve all had to embrace “mask guidelines”, “social distancing”, and other forms of crucial public safety guidelines.
But… amid everything we’ve had to embrace over the last two years, have you embraced your faith? As communicators in The United Methodist Church, we find ourselves in a unique spot — embracing new technologies and complex rules while still embracing the faith we are called to communicate. For some of us, it’s been hard. After all, our faith calls on us to be forgiving and to lead with grace, while some moments have left us grieving and harmed.
At this year’s UMAC22 meeting, we want to focus on this challenge and honor the incredible work we’ve all been doing. We have a great lineup of speakers, all of whom are focused on discussing the challenges of our current environment and how we can live into the new normal (whatever THAT might be!) and still embrace our faith.
Yeah — it stinks — we are not together in a big hotel, hugging each other and dancing with one another, but we have faith that that day is coming. Meanwhile, we are embracing (see what we did there?) the digital technology of virtual meetings.
