United Methodist Communications' leader advocates for support of communicators

10/22/2009

The Rev. Larry Hollon, General Secretary of United Methodist Communications, shared strategies for the Rethink Church campaign with communicators and encouraged them to continue in their work to help churches move outside their doors to work in their communities at the United Methodist Association of Communicators gathering in Nashville, Tenn., Oct. 21. In response to concerns expressed by communicators that their departments are often one of the first to feel the affect of budget cuts during a recession, he offered to meet with a team of advocates from the association to find ways to help church leaders understand the importance and value of a strong communications ministry. Listen to his address.

As a result of his invitation, UMAC has created an advocacy committee which will begin meeting with representatives from UMCom. The chair of the committee is  Steve Hustedt of the Desert Southwest Annual Conference.
